Zelma Poe’s Obituary

Zelma Margaret Poe, age 86, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023, at the Hampton Manner of Punta Gorda, Florida.  She was born on November 10, 1936, in Pensacola, Florida to parents Willard and Lucille Norris.  She was a pillar of strength as a military wife, supporting her husband through his dedicated service in the Navy, using her resilience and grace raising young children overseas. Zelma was a remarkable mother and grandmother who always provided love, support, and great advice.  She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way and showed genuine compassion for those less fortunate. Her tremendous love for animals made her home a safe haven for birds and many furry friends.

Zelma is survived by her brother and sister Ronaldo Carrancejie(Clarissa) and Lavetta Carrancejie, as well as children, Rita Kiah (Don), Kenneth Poe (Jody).  She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Francis (CJ) Poe, III (Leah), Antoinette Poe-Herbert (Senica Sr.), Keith Wolfe (Jenna), Erika Kiah, and Derrick Poe; along with her great-grandchildren Senica Poe-Herbert Jr., Dominic and Elijah Poe, Destiny, Alex, and Reis Wolfe, and Desmond Kiah as well as many nieces and nephews who will always cherish her memory. 

Zelma is preceded in death by her cherished husband Francis C. Poe Sr., son Francis (Chuck) Poe, Jr., as well as her parents Willard and Lucille Norris.

In honor of Zelma’s memory, the family is holding a Celebration of Life on November 13, 2023, at 12:30 pm., at Benboe Funeral Home, 416 W. Wright St., Pensacola, FL.  Following the Celebration of Life, Zelma’s ashes will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at Barrancas National Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to join both events to pay their respects and celebrate her life.
