Mr. William Ballard Obituary

Reflections of Life

William Edward Ballard was born in Old Warrington, Florida, on January 1, 1939, to Mr. and Mrs. Albert and Winnie Ballard. Of the five children born to this union he was the youngest which earned him the nickname “Babe”.

William was educated in Pensacola and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and went on to graduate from Booker T. Washington Jr. College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Math and Art. William married his high school sweetheart Josephine Richardson and to this union was born Sheree, Myron and Paula. They were married almost 65 years.

William retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992 after 31 years of dedicated service. He was an active and loyal member of the American Postal Worker Union, AFL-CIO where he served as president for a time.  William was a faithful member of First Corinthian Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He was the groundskeeper for many years and treated the church’s yard as if it were his own. He was a member of the Male Chorus and Male Usher Board.  William loved Sunday School and taught the adult class on the fourth Sunday. He was a member of the FCBC Mens Club and served as the “Chef Extraordinaire” for special events and picnics. He was instrumental in starting the children’s breakfast program and the Mother’s Day dinner. He also served as a chairman of the Benevolent Committee. When it was his turn to welcome visitors the membership looked forward to his “Ballard Moments”, because they always made you think! William was an avid Golfer and when he retired from the U.S. Postal Service, he continued this recreational sport and was on the course every weekend when he wasn’t working on his manicured lawn or someone else’s.William loved his family and in return was loved by them. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 65 years Josephine Ballard; daughter Sheree (Earl) Roberts; Son Myron (LaVenus) Ballard; daughter Paula (Anthony) McKenzie; Son Victor Allen; Grandchildren Dominic (Carissa) McKenzie; Lauren Triplett and fiance' Danny Alvarado; Myron Ballard, Jr.; Jeffrey (Angel) McKenzie and Bella Allen; Great-Grandchildren, Hailey-Ann McKenzie and Anthony A.
