Isaac Atkins was born in Forest Home, Alabama on August 1st, 1934 to the late James and Maud Atkins. Isaac was a loving brother to five siblings. He relocated to Pensacola, Florida at an early age. He worked for over 40 years as a foreman cement finisher and construction worker.
Isaac had a passion for gardening. He was very well known for his “Green Thumb.” But his true passion was his love for family. Isaac always looked forward to family reunions. He believed that it was important to the keep family together.
Isaac Atkins attended Zion Rest Methodist Church in Forrest Home AL. where he gave his life to Christ at an early age. In Pensacola, FL., he joined and was a faithful member of Houser Memorial AME Zion Church. He held the position of Trustee and was a Class Leader in the church. He was also a member of the Men’s choir. As a dedicated church member, he made sure that the church was cleaned and the grounds were maintained.
He was preceded in death by siblings Beatrice Johnson, Jennie Mitchell and James Atkins and grand daughter De’Anah East.
Isaac leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years Barbara Atkins, children: Gennis (Charles) Jacksonof Pensacola, FL, Patricia (William) Porter of Dothan, AL, Isaac (Janet) Atkins Jr. of Houston, TX, Ernestine (Christopher) Saulsberry of Dothan, AL, Ida (Albert) Calland of Pensacola, FL,Dela’drika (Larry) Brown of Orange Park, FL, De’Undre (Deborah) Atkins of Pensacola, FL, Deldra Atkins of Pensacola, FL, Godson: Marquies Dupree, siblings: Elizabeth Hale of Mobile, AL and Rosa Harris of Mobile, AL, Aunt: Clara Bass, Sister-in-Laws: Delores (Harvey) Mims of Pensacola, FL and Carol Reynolds of Mansfield, OH, 30 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and a host nieces, nephews, family and friends.
