Bennie McCormick, Jr. was born in Pace, Florida on October 12, 1933, to Bennie Sr. and Virginia McCormick.
Bennie spent his early years growing up in Pace, Florida. He attended school at Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of his Grandfather, Rev. Will Young. Later Rev. Young was called to Pastor at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Pensacola, Florida and the family moved to Pensacola. While at St. James, Bennie was a member of the Youth Usher Board and completed jobs around the Church.
Bennie met Ruth “Sweet” Brown at an event in Pace, Florida. It was love at first sight and they were united in Holy Matrimony on October 20, 1951. To this union, five (5) children were born.
Bennie dropped out of school (10thGrade) at the age of sixteen “16” to help support the family. His first true employment was with Carry Company delivering building material. After bouncing around with other employment he returned to Carry Company to perform his old duties. His blessing came in 19xx when he was hired by the City of Pensacola, Water Department. The Water Department was transferred to the Escambia County Utilities Authority where Bennie worked for Thirty-Five “35” years including over Twenty-Five “25” as a Senior Equipment Operator.
Bennie lived a simple life. His love for outdoor sports matched well with his in-laws. Can you say “Gone Fishing”.
